Where Is He Supposed to Go?!?
Question by nico?e: Where is he supposed to go?!?
My boyfriend got into a serouis car wreck on Dec 24 2007. He was ejected 95ft from the car. He completely shattered his pelvis. He has been in the hospital since battling a really bad infection, and he recently got a skin graph from his leg to his chest.
He wants to go to IN-patient rehab because his parents cant take care of him (they think they can..) His mom is morbidly obesse. She gets winded after going up 2flights of stairs and cant bend over to pick anything up. His dad is 73 and has suffered 2strokes. He is basically going senile.
The hospital is talking about “sending him home to recover so he can go to rehab”. Im NOT okay with that. His parents cant take care of him at home, how is he supposed to get the care he needs? I cant take care of him bc his parents are taking him home to TX, I live in FL. That in its self breaks my heart..
Does anyone know our options here? Recommendations??

Devastating.
I guess i would have to fight his parents, because there is no way they are going to help him recover.
He Definatly needs to go to some kind of rehab, i would suggest placing him in one that is between Texas and Florida, so His parents and yourself can visit him.

Talk to the hospitals his Occupational therapist and physiotherapist about what his needs will be when at home, this includes the type of physical therapy he needs to do each day. You could also speak to the hospitals counselor who may help too.
Is he in a wheel chair or is he able to move around? If he is in a wheel chair, I would hope that the OT will look at the type of house his parents live in, and how accessible it is, and take in to consideration the parents age and health.
If his mother and father are unable to met the requirements, needed for his recovery then the hospital have a responsibility to ensure he is given the best support, for the best outcome. Also if your boyfriend is over the age of 18 he does have a right in saying what happens, and where he should go.
I wish you and your boyfriend the best
