Is This a Good Monologue?

Question by ?WinterNights?: Is this a good monologue?
I’m auditioning for my school play, “The Crucible”, in a couple weeks. The director said we could write our own monologue for the audition and I was wondering how it sounds. Any improvements? Thanks, please be nice :)

Oh, so NOW you want me back? After getting rid of me? Two years I was at that “correctional facility” and you didnt contact me once. No letters. No phone calls.Having depression doesnt mean there’s something wrong with me. (Pauses) (chuckles humorlessly) You only wanted what was best for me? What a joke. You were perfectly happy to sit back and ignore me. Perfectly happy to showcase your other two perfectly normal children. Perfectly happy to pretend that you had a picture perfect family. You couldn’t care less what happened to me. (Pauses) You know what? I’m done with all of this. I want out of this family.

I like the monologue, but it doesnt seem right for the crucible. The Crucible is gut wrenching at the end and in this monologue it almost sounds like a whiny teenager. If i were you I would try to play on emotions. Using this depression rehab thing, maybe cry a bit, like your sad that the person didnt trust you enough to let you handle your issues. Or you could even be forgiving the person for having to send you away. Being angry is the easiest emotion for someone to portray on stage, the other emotions, sadness and forgivness show off your acting skills!! Good Luck :)

Not a good idea… Never write your own. Do your homework and find a good dramatic old english monologue because that is what the crucible is. You have the right concept on feeling but directors don’t like write your owns becuase actors change them on the spot and dont really memorize them.
