Yes. Sometimes people are so anxious about being around other people that they feel safer in their own home or room when they talk with other people.

Your friend may also feel safer talking to people about things that really bother her to strangers who won’t go telling anyone she knows, like her friends or her parents. He/She may be dealing with some hard issues that she/he is not ready to share yet.

All you can do is let them know that you are there for them whenever they want to talk, and when they do open up to you, remember to not be judgemental.

Be concerned when, or if, they ONLY talk to friends online and stop talking to everyone else around them. That’s called isolation and it is not healthy.

Good Luck to you Both!
