Astronaut, scientist, inventor, best-selling author, advocate for man’s future in space, Buzz Aldrin is considered one of the greatest heroes of space exploration. On July 20, 1969, he and Neil Armstrong made their historic Apollo 11 moonwalk, becoming the first two humans to set foot on another world.
An estimated 600 million people witnessed this unprecedented heroic endeavor. Upon his return from the Apollo 11 mission, Buzz was decorated with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest American peacetime award.
On November 11, 1966, he and command pilot James Lovell were launched into space in the Gemini 12 spacecraft on a 4-day flight, which brought the Gemini program to a successful close. Aldrin then established a new record for spacewalking, spending 5-1/2 hours outside the spacecraft.
Aldrin has logged 289 hours and 53 minutes in space, of which, 7 hours and 52 minutes were spent outside of his spaceship.
This legendary space hero revealed that he was moved to design this app by the rush of interest in global space activity, particularly among young people, which he found resulted from the current celebration of the 40th anniversary year of his, Neil Armstrong and Michael Collins’s Apollo 11 mission and First moon landing. “It is these young people who are the generation that will take mankind the next steps in space and space exploration. This app is an amazing tool to both educate and entertain, ” said Buzz Aldrin.
The original Rocket Hero goes on to say “My iPhone App brings together a huge wealth of new, important and historical information about science and space exploration. I have gathered a network of scientists, physicists, astronomers, astronauts and many others of the world’s great minds to help me out and keep this app timely and relevant with lots of original content. ”
