What Do You Think Was Metallicas Insperation?
Question by Juan im not 27: What do you think was metallicas insperation?
for Master of puppets? {explain]
and who else thinks thats there best album?
Best answer:
Answer by Carl F
I personally prefer “And Justice For All” to Master of Puppets.
I think much of the inspiration for a lot of Metallica’s music came from the fact that Hetfield was raised in a pretty strict Christian household. Much of their music sounds very angry to me and I look at his art as an outlet for a whole whole WHOLE lot of pent up anger.
At least that is how I see it. Specifically, as for the Master album, I couldn’t speak to that.
Strong emotions often lead to artistic creativity. For example, after the Kent State shootings, Niel Young wrote the classic song “Ohio.”

Carl F pretty much has it right. Hetfield was raised in a Christian Scientist household and his mother died when he was still young. He writes all of Metallica’s lyrics and pretty much composes all of their music as well (with a lil help from Lars). He has an extreme objection to religion so you’ll always find songs about that on their albums. As far as particular inspiration for that album if you look at the songs they’re all kind of diverse and don’t really follow a common threat such as “…..And Justice For All” which was when they sat around and watched a lot of CNN and news as they once mentioned in an interview. “Battery” is actually from their days in San Francisco and is reported to be named from Battery St. in S.F. “Master of Puppets” is obviously about the evils of drug addiction. “The Thing That Should Not Be” is merely a song about some sea monster in the long-running vein of heavy metal monster songs that just about every band does. “Welcome Home (Sanitarium)” is yet again a classic heavy metal theme song about a much written about subject- insanity. “Disposable Heroes” is a song about soldiers which Metallica writes about a lot showing an obvious interest in war. “Leper Messiah” shows Hetfield’s disillusioned opinion with religion once again. “Orion” is an instrumental so obviously has no real core theme. “Damage Inc.” is just another classic boastful metal song. So really there is no one true inspirational thing that made that album. Like most musicians unless they’re doing a “concept” album that actually does have a running theme, it’s just a collection of cool songs that a great composer like Hetfield came up with. Now, as far as their “best” album? It’s probably my second favorite. “…And Justice” is my favorite because it’s the tightest and the angriest of all their albums. You could tell it was the height of their writing power before they went to the stripped down radio-friendly black album. It was a clear continuation of “Master of Puppets” with faster and longer songs. Thanks for the question, that was fun answering.
