Question by Michael: what does a top secret security clearance consist of?
after i earn my bachelor’s degree, i want to become an ncis (naval criminal investigative service) special agent. and according to the NCIS website, they say i need a top secret security clearence.
i was just wondering what that consists of?

It means they are going to do a complete background check on you. They are interested in things like criminal history, credit history, and debt problems. They will also interview friends and to find out more about you. They want to make sure they can trust you with secret information and not worry about you being blackmailed, bribed, etc.

It consists of them searching for things that even you may not be aware of. A background investigation, covering a 10-year time period, is required. They may even do a background check on your family to make sure you don’t have any ties to criminal organizations or the like. The will also run a credit check.
