What to Do About School and My Mental Health?
Question by starducker: What to do about school and my mental health?
I’m 16, almost 17 and I have had severe clinical depression for about 2 1/2 years. For the past 6 months, about every week all the stress in my life causes me to have a breakdown where I become so close to killing myself. I am on meds, currently switching from zoloft to lexapro, see a psychiatrist, and my mother is very worried about me. She is the one who recommended a GED to me as a high school teacher herself and college planner.
I am smart enough to obtain a GED, I am currently in AP english, have about a 3.0(could be better if I wasn’t psychologically impotent) and score about a 1900 on the SAT, as a junior in high school. I have a year and a half left of high school. I never do my homework but do well on tests. I had about 2 friends before but now have 0, because I strayed away from them. In school I usually would eat lunch with my teachers. Art is my favorite thing because it is all that helps to clear my mind. Everyday that I go to school I break out in a sweat and have really bad anxiety, accompanied with nausea all day. When I am at home or in a comfortable place I feel safe. School really does not seem to be my forte.
this is my idea:
1. Drop out of high school to begin GED prep, and talk to the counselor for extra information.
2. Spend a few months on prep for the tests, then obtain it around march-may
3. Apply to community college, go to community college during what would be my senior year then transfer to a 4 year after 1 or 2 years in community college, or work full time (working soothes me) during what would be my senior year as a nice mental break then go to community college then 4 year college.
I feel like I really need to eliminate school stress for my mental health. If you or someone else has a GED or has had a similar situation or just has an opinion on this, please help? Online schooling isn’t an option because it doesn’t offer interesting courses and if I stay home I will get worse. Both my parents work so I can’t homeschool. I really need some feedback on what to do about this, and sharing your story or what you know would help me a lot. Thank you!
please don’t spam me with suicide hotlines and tell me to get help, as I already get “helped”
