The purpose of this article is to outline what it means to be suffering from depression stress.
One of the first things you should realize if you suffer from this condition is that there is no need to be ashamed of it nowadays, considering that millions of others are in the same boat as you. Interestingly enough however, it is known that only a fraction of the people suffering from depression stress will actually go as far as seeking help for their condition. In fact, research suggests that only about twenty to thirty percent of people will do so. Even more astonishing, is the fact that approximately fifteen percent of the world’s population suffer from one form of stress or another at some point in their lives. As you can imagine, this figure can have monumental implications in that depression and stress tends to affect all facets of a person’s life.
As any sufferer will attest to, depression stress can put a tremendous amount of pressure on family members and work colleagues, not to mention the fact that it can often prohibit a person from being able to form a steady relationship. Apart from affecting these areas of a person’s life, depression, if left unchecked, can also have a severe impact on a person’s overall health. In fact, research has shown that those who suffer from depression and stress are more at risk of acquiring numerous medical conditions than people who don’t suffer from depression.
The medical profession has long since established that women are more at risk than men in terms of becoming depressive. However, it’s perhaps alarming to learn that at least one in five women will suffer from severe depression stress at least once in a lifetime. Put into perspective, this means that women are twice as vulnerable as what men are to the condition. Equally alarming is the fact that approximately five or six million woman in America experience the symptoms of severe depression each day, resulting in a large number of them committing suicide. The women, who are most at risk, are those in the 25 to 40 age group, with many of them experiencing depression after having given birth.
Even though women are more at risk of developing depression than what men are, research has shown that the suicide rate is higher amongst men. It is believed that this is largely due to the fact that men are for the most part conditioned since childhood to believe that they’re expected to be the head of the family, and to provide for the family. As a result, when they reach the age where they can no longer work, or they use the job unexpectedly, resulting in them being unable to provide, they often succumb to depression.
Perhaps one of the most disturbing things regarding depression is that it can affect children as well. Of course, many people have never even considered this to be possible, simply because children rarely have any “real responsibilities”, but that’s not to say that children are immune. Admittedly, depression amongst children is more prevalent during a child’s teenage years, and this is due to a number of reasons such as the onset of puberty, stress at school, and even relationships which may fail.
Strangely enough, if one looks at the number of people seeking treatment for depression, it would seem as though depression is relatively uncommon, but if one looks at the statistics from the World Health Organization, you see a very different picture altogether. This of course goes to show just how many people fail to seek help even though there are so many different cures available. On the upside however, it is perhaps refreshing to see that of those who do seek help, more and more of them are starting to turn towards natural cures rather than prescription medication.
