How Can You Have a Relationship With Someone Who Is Bi-Polar?
Question by Brad: How can you have a relationship with someone who is bi-polar?
I am dating a girl now that has bi-polar disorder and It is so draining trying to keep the relationship together. I love her to death, but it is just to hard sometimes and unbearable. I want this relationship to work with everything in me, but what do I do? I usually just give her space when she blows up, because when I try talking about it, it seems to make things worse, almost like she wants a fight.. what are some things to do to make it work like a normal relationship would?
Thanks.

Is she on meds? does she take them regularly? She needs to take her meds regularly. If they don’t work she needs to try different ones.

Well, I’m just going to warn you – people with bipolar disorder love to use it as an excuse to be a b*itch, especially women. If she’s blowing up at you it’s most likely NOT her illness – she’s just impatient and doesn’t try to control her emotions. People with bipolar disorder that are stable on medication don’t just blow up constantly like that unless they want to. And many of them want to because they have such a dandy excuse. She’s probably just a b*itch and has fun picking fights. Blowing up is such a small symptom of bipolar – it’s not even certain that it WILL be a symptom if you’re diagnosed with it.
My suggestion is to not bother. She’s probably always going to be like this because she WANTS to be like this. She wants to hurt you and throw you around and has a pretty excuse to back up her actions. You’ll always forgive her because it’s not her fault, right? She can get away with murder and just point to bipolar whenever she wants.
