How Does One Go About Treatment for Self Harm?
Question by Nessa: How does one go about treatment for self harm?
When someone self harms, how do they stop if they can’t do it themselves? Is getting “treatment” just talking about it? seeing a psychologist? medication? entering a mental health institution? Thanks in advance!

Self harm is a very hard thing to treat. It usually means that there is an underlying mental health problem that needs to be addressed. I have self harmed for years due to my past and when I went to the emergency room to get my cuts stitched up I was asked to talk to a psychiatrist which I did and from there I was admitted to a psychiatric hospital. I was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder (the reason I cut), bipolar disorder and anorexia. I was told that cutting was a way of coping with situtations and it was up to me to stop if I wanted to and that no one but myself can stop me doing this. I still self harm but not as much since I was put on medication. Each individual is different however.
