In Need of Help.. Can “depression” “Go Away”?

Question by Clyde: In need of help.. can “depression” “go away”?
I am not sure but I think i have been depressed for the last 3 years (I have checked the symptoms in medical sites and they fit perfectly-unfortunately for me). And I am slowly losing motivation. I think it is getting harder for me to cope and all this numbness is honestly pathetic. I was wandering if I am just going through a -prolonged obviously- phase, a rough patch and not depression. Do you think it is likely to fade away in time, or should I seek medical help? If you support this last thing, do you think I should visit a psychologist or a psychiatrist ( I would like to avoid that, since I am 17.) By the way my friends are far from supportive they just tell me I am overreacting and nothing is wrong with me. But I know.

a close family member of mine has suffered for 8 years now shes just a bit older than you. she had left school early because of it. She got her first Psychiatrist at 13 and then its followed through. You can get Anti-Depressant pills from a Doctor but they usually go through a series of tests. You take two of these every morning. Unfortuantly my family members Psychiatrist just left her because she couldnt cope with her anymore, so i hope yours works out better if you get one.
Look into going to your local Doctors but believe me Psychiatrists, Therapist and Psychologists and beyond helpful. I do know someone whom has came out of it after suffering from it for 11 years. I know its hard but all the best and good luck
