Invega for Bipolar II?
Question by Regina: Invega for Bipolar II?
I was diagnosed with bipolar II over the summer and I only know of 1 hypomanic episode that I have had, the rest of the time, I am flat out depressed. I am concerned because my doctor keeps trying to prescribe me medicines to treat mania, when I don’t even have any symptoms of mania. I am also taking lithium. Has anyone had any experience with using invega or other “mania treatments” in a mostly depressed patient? I’m just concerned that this is heading for disaster and my doctor does not listen to what I have to say in our appointments.

I’ve taken Invega but because of the voices I hear and not mania. I didn’t like the med because it caused me to gain weight fast, has a high chance of diabetes and made me lactate…which I’ve learned can increase chances of developing breast cancer. If you are having problems with this doctor, ask for another one at that clinic or go somewhere else. You deserve the best care and even if you are on insurance that is pay for it, you should get treated like you know what is going on with your body…after all it is YOUR body. Oh and just so you know, some antipsychotic (mania treatments as you called them) are known to help with depression.
