Is It Normal for a House Party to Tell Playing Bands to Help Pay for Alcohol?
Question by Randy M: Is it normal for a house party to tell playing bands to help pay for alcohol?
My band just lost a show that we were a little excited to play. We were the opening act, and because the guy throwing the party was trying shove a 5th band in he lowered our set list from 45 mins down to 15. From the beginning he was telling us that we were required to drop 10 dollars a piece to help pay for alcohol. I thought our treatment was unfair so I voiced the concerns to him and he called ME an “a**hole” and threw us off the roster for the evening. Was this maybe a bad decision?

I think he was in the wrong here. You don’t want to work for people like that. You’re providing a service, so he should be paying you, not the other way around.

The guy sounds like a cheapskate and a schmuck, forget him.
