That is an excellant question. I believe you should check with
your hepatologist or gastroenterologist to be absolutely sure.
These are some quotes from places I researched about
sugar alcohol…
Quote from Livestrong:
“Don’t let the word “alcohol” confuse you —
sugar alcohols do not contain alcohol in
the traditional sense of the word, as in the
alcohol you find in beer or wine.
Instead, the word alcohol refers to its chemical structure.

Quote:
From the Joslin Diabetes Center:
“Sugar alcohols come from plant products
such as fruits and berries.
The carbohydrate in these plant products is altered
through a chemical process.
Quote from Yale-New Haven Hospital
“Don’t be confused. Although they share a similar name,
sugar alcohol and alcoholic beverages do not have the
same chemical structure. Sugar alcohol does not
contain ethanol, which is found in alcoholic beverages.
Quote from Mayo Clinic
“Despite their name, sugar alcohols aren’t alcoholic.
They don’t contain ethanol, which is found in alcoholic
beverages.” “Sugar alcohols (polyols) are carbohydrates
that occur naturally in certain fruits and vegetables,
but they also can be manufactured. ”

They say it is a carbohydrates and that it is found in many
foods in different forms, examples:
1)Mannitol is found naturally in pineapples, olives, asparagus,
sweet potatoes and carrots. It can be extracted from seaweed.
2)Sorbitol is found naturally in fruits and vegetables and
is manufactured from corn syrup.
3) Xylitol occurs naturally in straw, corncobs, fruit, vegetables,
cereals, mushroom.
But in some cases it mentions it as being a type of alcohol…
There are many different types of alcohol
..some are more harmful than others are:

I did look up polyols, but still did not find a sufficient answer.
