Is This a Dumb Idea for a Book/movie?
Question by Anonymous: Is this a dumb idea for a book/movie?
It came a disturbing dream that I just had o.O
Two amateur detectives are desperate and looking for a case, and they remember a suspicious guy they knew. They sneak into his house (basically break in) to investigate. There they find multiple quantities of his medicine. Later on, they keep on taunting him. Then one day, they see him on the subway and one of the detectives tease him. The guy comes near them and takes out a knife until the other detective intervenes. Then, a week or whatever later, he’s throwing a party. They go in (this is where my dream gets foggy) and they taunt him again. He finally cracks and runs after them with a knife, but he doesn’t catch them. Then, he gets desperate and takes out his home made bomb and blows up a part of his house that they were under. They escape. He follows them with his knife, and they get into a scuffle. The detectives called a friend of their’s to help and when he sees them fighting with him, he helps and then they end up stabbing the guy to death out of protection. The amateur detectives feel terrible.
I guess this a story that asks, “Who’s the real monster here?” It’s stupid, I know :/

Weird thing about dreams–they mean so much when we’re having them. They even mean much more to us, when we’re awake, but when we tell them, we end up laughing, because there are always these big “how stupid can it get” parts. It feels embarrassing, but the truth is that happens to everyone. I’ve never had a dream that I could write as it happened in a story, but they’re great for something else. They’re great in giving us ideas for a story and to go from there.
Dumb part of your dream–they aren’t detective if their “jobs” are to rob someone and then stalk them. BUT they are great bad guys for a story. Change it a little. Why did they do that? You know “detective” doesn’t fit without looking silly, but people to stalk others so much so that they break into houses and causes trouble. Dumb part of your dream, no ones blowing up his own home to get rid of stalkers, but it has been known to happen that people get so angry that they shoot at people harassing them. What can go wrong? (My grandmother, when she was young, worked at a drug rehab center where a kid just got out of juvie after shooting, and killing, his grandmother. He didn’t mean to do it, so he only got time in juvie, instead of adult prison. He meant to shoot a guy near his grandmother and missed. There are some really dumb things people do.)
So, would your dream make a great story? No, but you know the really scary parts and you know what doesn’t work, so it makes a good base for the beginning of a great story.
