Is This Legal??
This is in Tennessee.
My girlfriend works at a residential drug and alcohol treatment facility. they are requiring her to work a 24-hour shift. can they do that?
Also – the facility is requiring the residential techs (my gf’s job) to give out medication too. there are people there detoxing and must take valium and other narcotics. she is not a nurse. and the techs are not trained to understand medication. they have nurses there who are no longer giving the meds, for whatever reason. the nurses leave all the time for hours leaving the techs to make medical descisions.
What can she do? is this illegal?
it isnt the nurses telling the techs to give meds, its the director of the facility.

NO…Illegal!
This needs to reported they may look for reasons to fire her. my advice contact a lawyer and the media
I think in any state a 24 hour shift is illegal. But, that doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen. As to dispensing meds, that definitely sounds fishy! She might want to ask the people in HR about what her duties include and ask questions about dispensing meds. Also, in TN there must be a department within the state she can contact that oversees hospitals to ask questions.
Wow. This does not sound good. Dispensing drugs. What if someone has a reaction. This can’t be legal. There are supposed to be nurses for every so many patients. Report this now.
Some of those drugs are bound to be triplicates (requiring 3 copies of everything) because they are controlled substances. Scary.
Is the director an M.D?
Here… absolutely not. That is something you would need to research. I am an EMT, and even though I CAN give someone an IV, it is illegal. Here in Fla. there is stict code for that shit. I would have her research on what exactly Tenn laws are about that. And you could be millionaires in the end! Much love! Muah.
its time for somebody to pay this place a suprise visit, and i might not be at work that day………
Here is a link to the regulations for the facility. Note that your gf can ask for a copy of her job description, which the facility is required to have.
Doctors and nurses must supervise the distribution of drugs and medicines, but it doesn’t look like they have to personally give them. They will be the responsible party though.

It is common in many service jobs to have 24 hour shifts. It is not illegal, but there are break requirements and wage standards. Workers on 24 hour shifts must also be provided with rest areas.
