Pediatric Physical Therapy?

i am a high school junior, and i am interested in physical therapy as a career. i love kids though, and was wanting to work with them. is pediatric pt a good career? what do you do differently? what setting do you work in? and any other general info about pt? thank you very much

It’s a good career. As a pediatric PT, you are mostly working with children with neurological problems…cerebral palsy, developmental delays, etc. You might see the occasional child for typical injuries, but most of these patients go to regular orthopedic clinics.
Most pediatric PTs work in schools or in the patient’s home in an early intervention program.
As far as what you do different (as compared to a “regular PT”…if there is such a thing, ha, ha), it’s difficult to describe unless you had some knowledge in the field…but basically, you are trying to facilitate normal movement patterns and motor mile stones.
If you run across a PT named “Mary” on here, she’ll be a good source of info as she is a pediatric PT.
