Physical Therapist Washington Dc: a New Years Eve Dance Washington DC Quote
During the 2012 New Years Eve Dance Washington DC, a performer posed this question: “If there are no stupid questions, then what kind of questions do stupid people ask? Do they get smart just in time to ask questions?” Scott Adams originally had that thought, but it is now something pondered by all (except maybe the stupid people?).
A Professionals in the City teacher I had in high school was famous for telling her students that there is no such thing as a stupid question. In fact, she once made all of her students write an essay about that saying. We all had to read our essays at the front of the class.
Back to the New Years Eve Dance Washington DC… I could hear–and even feel– the audience rolling that thought around in their head. I wanted so bad to get up and tell the performer that, contrary to popular belief, only stupid people ask questions. The definition of stupid is lacking intelligence, and the reason people ask questions is to gain intelligence. Therefore a person lacking some sort of intelligence asks a question in an attempt to gain that intelligence.
Is that to say that we are all Professionals in the City stupid people? In a sense, yes. Although we are all not lacking any intelligence at all, we are all lacking all intelligence in some way. Everyone has their own set of intellectual knowledge, but not everyone possesses the wisdom of the entire world. As I have grown up, I have learned that my dream of “knowing everything” is in fact–despite what my parents told me about “anything” being possible– impossible.
In conclusion, we are all stupid people who ask intelligent questions. If we did not know enough about something to want to know more and in turn ask a question about it, we would either be completely stupid (which I don’t believe anyone is), or we would be completely intelligent (which I have already deemed impossible). I leave you with this quote that I hope is used at next year’s New Years Eve Dance Washington DC: “There are no stupid questions, only intelligent questions and stupid people. People do get smart just in time to ask questions then they are stupid again.”
