Hip Replacement Exercise Program – Physical therapy for hip replacement generally continues after patients go home from the hospital until they are able to function more independently. Total rehabilitation after surgery will take at least 6 months. Patients will have an exercise program to follow when they go home, even if they are still having physical therapy. Patients should also take a short walk several times each day. If they notice any soreness, they should try a cold pack on their hip and perhaps decrease their activity a bit, but not stop completely. Staying with their walking and exercise program will help speed their recovery.
