Suppose a US College Had a “Russian Cultural Center” and a “White Students’ Alliance”?

Question by CAustin: Suppose a US college had a “Russian Cultural Center” and a “White Students’ Alliance”?
Most people, I think, would agree that a Russian Cultural Center would serve a productive and non-racist purpose, particularly on a college that maintained a sizable number of Russian exchange students. Most people would also hold that a “White Students’ Alliance” would be racist and negative.

So this question is a two-parter. First:

1) What, specifically, are the differences that make the “Russian Cultural Center” a positive concept and the “White Students’ Alliance” a negative concept, and

2) How does a hypothetical “women’s center” measure up against your standards? How about a “men’s center?”

Those things are so one-sided it’s ridiculous. Title ix is supposed to be about gender equality, but it’s always one sided.

If sports participation reaches 60% males, we cut males, but yoga, palates and aerobics can be 85% women or more and women are never cut.

Feminists are now pushing to put quotas on STEM fields of study men enter more than women, but of course don’t want to limit women from entering women dominated fields of study.

I’ve seen several reports of campuses that may have 7 women’s groups, but the second there’s any interest in having one men’s group, theres a big protest and claims that it’s misogyny.

Feminist speakers are welcomed with open arms, but when someone comes to a campus to speak about male issues, there are protests and name calling.

It’s all very one sided, and reminds of the idea of reverse discrimination which I feel is a horrible term. The reverse of discrimination is non-discrimination. If we allow one cultural group to have their recognized organization, we should allow others to do the same. Same with gender based organizations.

Add: I worked at a college for some time and personally, I don’t like the idea of giving space to certain groups but not others. It’s very discriminatory and greatly advantages those groups with their own space over those who do not have their own space. Why not instead have spaces available to any group that wishes to use them for a meeting or event?

I generally oppose apartheid. Yet I recognize that people have a right to choose with whom they want to associate, and to freely assemble. Ergo a “White Student’s Alliance” is just a legitimate as a “Women’s Center”. Yet neither gains my respect.
