Betty Ford Center: Former First Lady Betty Ford Dies at 93
by alejandrolavinjr Betty Ford, the former First Lady and co-founder of an eponymous addiction center in California, died on Friday night at the age of 93. She was the third longest-lived first lady, only after Bess Truman and Lady Bird Johnson. The family was said to release a statemeht later Friday. No other details were immediately available. Over 20 years ago, Ford underwent quadruple coronary bypass surgery. She underwent radical surgery for breast cancer in 1974 and operations for blood clots in August 2006 and April 2007. The widow of President Gerald Ford suffered from poor health and increasing frailty, which caused her to largely curtail her public life. Read more... ...
