Teenage Drug Rehab: Drug Rehab for a Teenager With a Problem
When your teen is involved with drugs, it is easy to be in denial. It may seem temporary, and for some kids it is. However, others start to rely on drugs some, outpatient therapy can be successful. For others, an inpatient facility works best.
Aside from the psychological and physical dependence that drug abuse entails, there is also the problem of doing something that is illegal. This can mean suspension or being expelled from school, problems with college or employment obstacles. Having a record gives a teen a bad start in life. Many business
owners do not want to risk their company to an employee that may steal or be irresponsible about work attendance.
First of all, a treatment plan needs to be decided upon. If the teen was involved in the court system, he might be told that he needs to go to regular group sessions as a consequence of drug court. Some parents will send their teenagers to a boarding school with strict supervision. There are also detox centers as well as treatment centers that have 30 day residential stays. Each of these needs to be considered along with the type and severity of the drug problem. If the teen is doing an outpatient program and is on probation , he may have a very early curfew such as seven or nine in the evening.
One needs to call their insurance provider to check about coverage for both individual and group sessions. Your insurance company can also give you a list of rehab centers that are covered by the plan. They will also have a list of substance abuse providers.
If your child goes to an out of area school or a rehab center, you’ll probably be called in for some family sessions to work through issues that your teen brings up at the facility. Each facility has their own visitation schedule and some will have the teen wait a few weeks before seeing anyone outside of the center.
It is very hard for a teenager to think of dropping certain friends, but this often is an important step for recovery. To expect a kid to resist temptations when his friends are involved with drinking or drugs on weekend evenings takes a lot of self-control.
