Tell Me a Story: Lifting the Burden of Depression and Suicidal Thoughts – www.cincinnatichildrens.org A couple of years after her dad committed suicide, Sam Potter began sinking into severe depression. At first, her mom didn’t know if her moodiness was typical preteen behavior or something worse. When Sam began threatening to kill herself, her mother, Tammi Potter, knew she needed help. She called her pediatrician, who referred her to Cincinnati Children’s. They started out in the Emergency Department and ended up at the medical center’s College Hill campus, which treats kids with chronic mental health problems. Today, Sam is doing better. She is smiling more and focusing her energy on building a foundation, Rob’s Kids, in honor of her dad. She wants to help other kids dealing with depression and suicidal thoughts. She wants them to know they’re not alone and that they can get better.
