What Does It Mean to Have an Addictive Personality?
Question by Candy: What does it mean to have an addictive personality?
I’m always “addicted” to things. If I like something, I obsess over it until I’m sick of it. Like food. If there is a certain food I like, I won’t stop craving it until I’ve had it constantly for months. I’ve been addicted to the internet and another problem area. I obsess over people for months like celebrities and sometimes I lose sleep over it. I get “addictive” to certain games, spending money, ect. Do I have an addictive personality? My doctor said I have a mild form of OCD.

Some people have a pre-disposition to addiction to things like drugs and alcohol. But they come out in different ways with different people. Like problems with gambling, but not problems with drugs. I have a friend who is a really good drug abuse and family counselor, and I asked her if she had evr been in a casino. She said no. She was afraid she would enjoy it.
You might have an addictive personality. But that does not mean you are going to be addicted to something. If you quit something after you get bored with it, you are not addicted to it. Just tired of it. Only after you get tired of it, and you cannot put it down. That is when you have problems.
An alcoholic cannot have just one beer. 20 drinks is not enough, and 1 is too many.
Your doctor might be right.
