Question by Catherine E: What happends when you mix Ambien with alcohol?
My sister just got a prescription for Ambien, and she was all pleased to hear that the effects can be increased with alcohol use, so she now want to take it with a glass or two of wine.
While I havn’t heard of that amount being able to kill you, I’m still concerned.
Note: She’s not planning to get very drunk, or take more Ambien than prescribd. She just wants to “enhance” it with some wine. What would this do? What would she feel?

mixing medicines with alcohol is not such a good idea. Drinking alcohol with Ambien will increase drowsiness and dizziness which could be dangerous and lead to some serious complication.. Ambien affects chemicals in your brain that may become unbalanced and cause insomnia and this medicine belongs to a class of drugs called hypnotics or sleep medications. Mixing it with alcohol can cause serious problems in your brain.

Ambien can have some side effects…eating or driving without recollection, etc.. Tell her to stop before she hurts someone or herself. If that doesn’t work, call her Doctor and let him/her know what’s going on. You may save your sister’s life. kjl
