What Is Available for Bipolar Children Who Forget to Take Meds?

Question by freedom68: What is available for Bipolar children who forget to take meds?
I have a 17 year old male with he for gets his meds and probably does not want to take them. He has not completely accepted the diagnosis,the suicide,threats of bodly harm .How ,what I do not know if he will be safe on the streets when he turns 18,how can I protect him from him self?

You can’t. Even the law cannot force someone to take medication if they don’t want to once they turn eighteen. ALl you can do is pray.

This is a tough one. Even Bipolar adults often stop meds during the times they feel better!

You may have discussions with him, to explain it all thoroughly, so he understands the complete situation.

You may make privileges contingent on taking his meds, as long as he lives with you.

You may arrange for him to live with a roommmate he likes at age 18, who may encourage him to take his meds.

Otherwise, you just pray a lot!
