What Is the Best Way to Handle Someone With Depression?
Question by Setheronie (rhymes with pepperonie): What is the best way to handle someone with depression?
My girlfriend, whom I love dearly is depressed. It started a year and a half ago when 2 of her best friends died unexpectanly in a car accident. We became friends shortly after and dated almost a year after.
My question is, when she has a breakdown, what is the best way to deal with her? I can’t push her away, I love her too much to let go. When she isn’t in her depression “down” she is so perfect. She’s on medication, but she still gets down.
I really need some advice.
Thanks

I’m glad you are so supportive of her, because that’s exactly what she needs. She needs someone to hold her when she cries, someone she can share everything with, someone that will make everything “okay” in the end. When she’s having a breakdown, be calm and gentle. Do not get excited or angry, just calmly listen to what she has to say. Comfort her as best as you can; sometimes all it takes is a shoulder to cry on. But if things get much worse, you might need to suggest she meet with a doctor to discuss her mood/medication.
