What Type of Mental Illness?

Question by Jeff: What type of ?
I volunteer at “the center” (the program for the mentally and physically disabled) at my school and i was wondering since there is such a spectrum of abilities in the students so i wondered what “illness” each person has. I noticed that some students are outgoing, talkative, happy and social while some of the severe students simply sit in the corner and don’t talk, don’t move, make no real words. i just wonder what illness they have or are they just on so much medication that they just sit there?

Every single person is different and every single person has a different story. Some may be on medication, some may not be able to communicate well and some may not like to talk to others, most likely they aren’t on too much medication.

Medication is one thing to consider in socially isolated students, yes.

There are several possibilities for mental illnesses the students may have, such as:

Bipolar
Depression
Mania
Anorexia
ADD/ADHD
Schizophrenia
Psychosis
Autism
Anxiety
Paranoia
PTSD
OCD
Bulimia
Personality Disorders
OCPD
Drug and/or Alcohol Addiction
Impulse Control
Tourette’s Syndrome
Insomnia

Just to name a few. The students who often keep to themselves or isolate themselves could have Autism, Schizophrenia, Psychosis, Depression, Anxiety, Paranoia, or in fact any disorder (just depends on their personality). Social students can include those with ADD/ADHD, Insomnia, OCD, Bipolar, and as said before – any mental disorder. You can try talking to some students to know them better, give them your own story maybe they’ll give you theirs’.
