On March 10, 2006, Welch was baptized in the Jordan River with a group of believers hailing from Bakersfield, California. He has declared that he has rid himself of all drugs in his “own personal rehab” with God, in which he had checked into a hotel room and sat in his bed for countless hours. He has recently built a home, which he calls “The Crib” for a group of Indian children numbering over 200.

Welch and Davis have attacked each other in the media since the former’s departure. After he said that Davis and the rest of Korn care only about money, Davis responded in kind, opening a rift between them that may or may not have been resolved.

In July 2005, Welch appeared on CNN’s feature-format program “People In The News” where he admitted to having been addicted to alcohol, methamphetamines, Xanax, and sleeping pills before being reintroduced to the Christian faith.

He had images of Jesus tattooed on his hands stating, “The Jesus tattoo on my hand keeps me from choking the chicken (if you know what I’m sayin’).”

Welch has also been tattooed with the words Matthew 11:28 (“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”) and Matthew 5:8 (“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.”).

It’s Time to See Religion Die is the solo debut album by Brian “Head” Welch, ex-Korn lead guitarist. It is due for release in July 2007.

One way Welch plans to reach out to his naysayers is through his new music, which he had previously described as “an extension of the Korn family”. Initially he was tight-lipped about the details, but after reading his first interview with MTV News, he was quick to clear a few things up. Primarily, he was concerned that it was reported that his new songs wouldn’t be “Christian music.”

“My music is going to have a Christian, spiritual edge to it, for sure. I didn’t mean to be confusing earlier,” he said. “I mean, I have a song called ‘Kry,’ which I feel is like God talking to me. I mean, it’s not heavy Christian music. It’s just a reflection of how I feel now. It’s about life experiences. It’s happy, uplifting, fairy tale music.”

Welch said he plans on recording a cover of U2’s “With or Without You,” done “very different from the original.” And he’s also working on a politically inspired tune tentatively titled “Bleeder.”
