Will You Drink And/or Smoke Pot With Your Underage Teenager?

Question by All I see is the ref librarian: Will you drink and/or smoke pot with your underage teenager?
Someone asked a question about pot smoking a minute ago, and I thought about my plans for my daughter and wondered how others’ views might differ.

I don’t care that pot smoking is illegal. As far as I’m concerned it’s the same as speeding in your car: can be just fine, can be dangerous, lots of people do it. So I’m not talking about the law. I’m talking really more about parental plans for one’s children.

I intend to drink and smoke with her while she’s underage. Why? Because (1) she’s going to do it anyway and (2) I of all people know her and have her best interests at heart–who better to teach her to be a responsible recreational drug user? (And alcohol is a recreational drug, by the way.)

I have to imagine that a lot of Christians (if anyone has actually read this far!) are reacting in horror to this idea. What? Smoke and drink with your underage child?!? And that’s the real root of my question: how are YOU going to teach YOUR child YOUR values about recreational drug use? So be sure to include in your answer your values about recreational drug use, and include your religion / denomination / fundamentalist level, 1-10 where 1 = “Shut up, sinner” and 10 = “My teenager is the one who demanded I go into rehab.”

Please, no bible verses. I’ve read it five times. I’m not asking a morality question here; I’m asking people on this forum how they plan to teach their children.

I think it’s kind of sketchy.

I find it ok to supervise such activities, since you would have control over what goes on, but to do it with your kids would be really silly.

I’ll drink with my kids, but I won’t smoke with them. If my kids want to drink/smoke and do so responsibly I have no problem with it. However, if it’s going to lead to poor decision making, I’ll end up having to put my foot down.
